Jesús De Anda Scholarship at Moraine Valley Community College

The Jesús De Anda Scholarship fund was created in memory of Jesús for students at Moraine Valley Community College. Moraine is the community college local to the home where Jesús raised his young family near Chicago, IL. The scholarship fund will be used to support students with financial need in reaching their academic goals. Jesús loved school from a young age. When times were financially challenging for his family, his family recalls he would save his money so he could pay for and continue to attend school. Ultimately, due to work and family obligations, he was only able to attend school intermittently and complete primary school. Jesus always wondered what additional opportunities would have been available to him had he been able to earn a degree in the field he loved. He felt a deep sense of satisfaction when he finally earned his GED at the of 62.

Childhood Sickness

The Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital

Jesus lost his grandson, Diego, who was only two years old when he passed away due to brain cancer. The Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children's, more commonly referred to as "The House" was invaluable for the family when Diego was receiving cancer treatment. “The House" allowed Jesús’ family to stay as close together and to the hospital as possible. Jesús loved the warmth and hospitality “The House” offered and would often say that he wanted to find a way to repay them for the care and comfort they provided his family during such a challenging time. This organization was near and dear to his heart.
